Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Can’t Convert Chances in Scoreless Draw with Hiram

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team opened the home portion of its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule on Tuesday night when Hiram came to town, and despite several chances to find the net, the Golden Tornadoes eventually settled for a scoreless draw with the Terriers.  Geneva is now 2-3-3 on the season, 0-1-2 in the PAC.

Geneva earned its first corner kick of the contest less than two minutes into the match, which would be a common theme for the Golden Tornadoes.  Unfortunately, the women could never get a good shot off the crosses that came in off the corner kicks.  Senior Noelle Beare almost scored directly off a corner midway through the half, but her curling cross was pushed just over the bar.

Neither team could generate many chances through the run of play during the opening 45 minutes, as neither team could string together many passes before the other team gained possession.

The second half was played out much like the first half.  Geneva continued to generate corner kicks, but the Golden Tornadoes were unable to get a firm shot off any of the crosses, though they did have a few soft shots that were cleared off the line.  Freshman Hannah Hido's shot from the top of the box with just under ten minutes remaining was Geneva's best chance late, but it was saved by Hiram's keeper Madie Kennedy.

The women finished with 16 corner kicks, compared to just one for Hiram, and the Golden Tornadoes outshot the Terriers 13-6, 8-3 in shots on goal.  Sophomore keeper Natalie Foster made three saves to post her second shutout of the season.  Sophomore Cassidy Stopchick led the team with four shots, three on goal, all coming off of corner kicks.

Geneva will play its final non-conference match of the season on Saturday when the Golden Tornadoes host Pitt-Greensburg at 1:00 p.m.
