Men’s Tennis Handles the Heat
Erie, PA – Men's tennis handled the heat just fine on Saturday while earning back-to-back road game wins. Geneva rolled over Penn State Behrend 8-1 followed by a 7-2 performance over the University of Pittsburgh Bradford campus.
 
"Four straight wins is an amazing feeling for our program," said head coach Mandee Craft. "To pull out our second match of the day, battling through the heat, says a lot about the heart and spirit of this team."
 
Geneva owned doubles play taking all three matches from Penn State Behrend. Alex Beck and Drake Greenstein teamed up in first doubles clinching an 8-5 win. Eric Abbott and Ethan Stahl sealed an 8-4 decision in second doubles followed by an 8-2 victory in third doubles by Caleb Hoal and Alex Greissinger.
 
Beck continued his work in in first singles (8-5) as did Abbott in the four spot (8-2) and Stahl at five (9-8). Nate Heidengren took a swift victory in third singles (8-1) while Jesse Hooke defeated sixth singles opponent 8-2.
 
In match two of the day, Heidengren and Stahl connected for an 8-0 second doubles sweep. Adam Borst got in on the action pairing up with Hoal for a third doubles 8-0 win.
 
Beck finished first singles 2-0 on day. He pulled away from Pitt Bradford opponent, 8-6. Heidengren built among his outstanding doubles match, tallying an 8-1 third singles victory.
 
Abbott finished his day 8-3 over his opponent in fourth singles supported by Hooke (8-0) in fifth singles and Greissinger's 8-0 sixth singles win.
 
The program's non-traditional season will come to a close on Wednesday, October 4 in Circleville, Ohio against Ohio Christian University.
