WAYNESBURG, Pa. – In its final match of the regular season, the Geneva College men's tennis team traveled to Waynesburg University on Monday afternoon and picked up a 6-3 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The win breaks a three match losing streak and improves Geneva's record to 13-4, 4-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Waynesburg is now 6-9, 2-6 in the PAC.
In doubles action, senior Ethan Stahl and junior Eric Abbott picked up a win in #2 doubles, and sophomore Alex Greissinger and freshman Drake Greenstein won in #3 doubles.
In singles action, freshman Nate Heidengren won in #2 singles, Greenstein won in #3 singles, Stahl won in #5 singles, and senior Jesse Hooke won in #6 singles. Greenstein's win was especially impressive, as he outlasted his opponent in three sets, winning the tiebreaker, 20-18.
It's hard to focus on much other than Drake's win today," Head Coach Mandee Craft said. "You rarely see a 20-18 tiebreaker. He played a steady, competitive game to pull out a huge win."
Geneva will now look ahead to the PAC championships which will take place this Friday and Saturday in Erie, Pennsylvania.
