HOLLAND, Mich. --- The Geneva College women's basketball team lost to Concordia University (Wisconsin), 81-72 on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Hope College Tip-off Tournament.
The Golden Tornadoes took a quick 5-0 lead to start the game and kept the game tight throughout the first quarter, getting to a 23-23 tie before the Falcons went on a 5-0 to take a 28-23 into the second quarter.
CUW kept Geneva just out of reach of taking the lead back in the second quarter, despite the Golden Tornadoes outscoring the Falcons 20-19 over the second 10 minutes of play. Geneva did not allow the Falcons to score over the last 2:15 of the quarter and cut the CUW lead from 47-35 to 47-43 at the half over an 8-0 run.
Mackenzie Barricklow made a layup with 7:51 left in the third quarter to tie the score at 49-49, the last time the Golden Tornadoes would be in striking distance.
Mia San Nicolas scored a team-high 22 points, with a team-high nine rebounds, while Taylor Haring scored 12 points. San Nicolas was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Geneva (0-3) hosts Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m. for the 2022-23 home opener at Metheny Fieldhouse.
