Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tennis Season Ends for Men at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon.  The #5-seeed Geneva dropped a 7-2 decision to #4-seed Westminster.  Geneva's season ends with a 6-8 record.

Just a week after these two teams played in the regular season in a fairly tightly contested match that Westminster won 6-3, Geneva knew it needed to get off to a good start in doubles.  Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes dropped all three matches, putting them into a big deficit going into singles play.

Geneva needed to win five of the six matches to secure a victory, but the men could only win two of the matches.  Senior Amos Luptak (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) won in #4 singles 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, and graduate student Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy) also won a third-set tiebreaker in #6 singles 4-6, 7-6, 10-8.

"I'm really proud of the way we fought today," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "I'm especially happy for Amos and Grease (Alex Greissinger) for fighting out tough wins.  Westminster was just too tough overall today."
