Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Can’t Keep Pace with Chatham

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's basketball team saw its game with Chatham inside Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening get away from the Golden Tornadoes in the first quarter, and the Cougars headed home with a 100-59 victory.  Geneva dropped to 3-14 overall, 3-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Chatham improved to 11-5, 8-4 in the PAC.

Geneva tried to hang with Chatham early, with a three-pointer from junior Emily Bucheit pulling the Golden Tornadoes within 8-6 three minutes into the game.  However, things quickly got away from the ladies.  Chatham found success in transition, while Geneva struggled with turnovers and shooting.  That enabled the Cougars to close the quarter on a 24-2 run to take a 32-8 lead at the first break.

The Golden Tornadoes could never get back on track offensively or defensively the rest of the game, and Chatham pulled away for the 100-59 win.

Junior Mia San Nicolas led the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Cynthia Stewart also reached double figures with 10 points.  Geneva shot just 17-of-69 (24%) from the floor, 6-of-26 (23%) from three-point range, while committing 32 turnovers.  Chatham shot 40% from the floor and knocked down 12 three-pointers.  The Cougars, who had three players reach at least 19 points, also held a 67-48 rebounding edge, including 28 offensive rebounds.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the women.  The Golden Tornadoes host Grove City on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
