Men’s Tennis Battles Franciscan in Tight Loss

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team battled Franciscan on Monday night in a match that saw five of the nine matches end up in a tiebreaker, with the Barons prevailing 6-3.  Geneva dropped to 3-4 overall, 1-2 in the conference.

Franciscan got off to a strong start by taking all three doubles matches, including the match in the first flight that went to a tiebreaker.

The singles matches were even tighter.  Four of those matches went to tiebreakers, with three Golden Tornadoes pulling out victories.  Junior Nick Heidengren won in #3 singles 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.  Freshman Owen Landis won in #5 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, while older brother Jalen Landis prevailed in #6 singles 7-6, 4-6, 11-9.

"While the loss is a heartbreaker" said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "we had some strong wins.  It was a very good, competitive match overall."

The men will play their next five matches on the road, beginning with a match at Westminster next Tuesday, April 11.
