BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team battled Franciscan on Monday night in a match that saw five of the nine matches end up in a tiebreaker, with the Barons prevailing 6-3. Geneva dropped to 3-4 overall, 1-2 in the conference.
Franciscan got off to a strong start by taking all three doubles matches, including the match in the first flight that went to a tiebreaker.
The singles matches were even tighter. Four of those matches went to tiebreakers, with three Golden Tornadoes pulling out victories. Junior Nick Heidengren won in #3 singles 6-3, 3-6, 10-6. Freshman Owen Landis won in #5 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, while older brother Jalen Landis prevailed in #6 singles 7-6, 4-6, 11-9.
"While the loss is a heartbreaker" said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "we had some strong wins. It was a very good, competitive match overall."
The men will play their next five matches on the road, beginning with a match at Westminster next Tuesday, April 11.
