Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Drop Game at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Geneva College women's basketball team could never get its offense going at Chatham on Saturday afternoon, falling into a big early hole, and the Cougars went on to win 78-44.  Geneva dropped to 7-7 overall, 4-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Chatham improved to 8-4, 6-2 in the PAC.

Chatham jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter, with junior Anna Ulmer supplying the lone bucket for Geneva in the opening four minutes.  Two minutes later, after a layup from freshman Alexander Cozzens cut the Cougar lead to 16-8, Chatham scored 18 straight points over the final four minutes of the first quarter and first four minutes of the second quarter before another bucket from Cozzens finally broke the long scoring drought for the Golden Tornadoes.

Chatham took a 43-19 lead into the break, and Geneva could never get its offense going in the second half, eventually falling 78-44.

Ulmer was the bright spot for the women in the game, finishing with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor, while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.  Geneva shot 18-of-52 (34.6%) from the floor and struggled from deep, hitting just 3-of-22 (13.6%) from three-point range.

Chatham had four players in double figures, led by 13 points apiece from Madison Nereu and Alyssa Laukus.  The Cougars shot 28-of-70 (40%), and their full-court pressure forced 40 Geneva turnovers.

The women have a week off before returning to action next Saturday inside Metheny Fieldhouse with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
