Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Suffer Tough PAC Loss at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Geneva College women's basketball team dropped a key Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Bethany on Saturday afternoon, 90-74.  The loss is a damaging one for the women, who drop three games behind Bethany for the final PAC playoff spot with just four games remaining.  Geneva is now 9-12 on the season, 6-10 in the PAC.

Bethany took control of the game early.  After a three-pointer from sophomore Aizlyn Thompson pulled Geneva within 6-5, the Bison responded with six straight points.  Bethany slowly stretched its lead over the rest of the first quarter, finding success in transition to grab a 26-15 lead at the first break.

Junior Emily Garvin scored a couple of early buckets in the second quarter, and after baskets from Thompson and junior Anna Ulmer, Geneva pulled with 34-27.  However, Bethany immediately responded with a 10-2 run to regain control, eventually taking a 47-35 into the halftime break.

The Golden Tornadoes couldn't make any progress in the third quarter, with Bethany stretching its lead to 18 points, 57-39, with four minutes left in the third quarter.  The women made a run midway through the fourth quarter, closing within six points, 75-69, on a jumper from freshman Alexandra Cozzens.  However, Bethany pulled away over the final four minutes for the victory, 90-74.

Garvin led the team with 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.  Cozzens scored 16 points off the bench, while Ulmer reached double figures with 11 points.  Geneva shot 28-of-67 (41.8%) from the floor, but just 6-of-32 (18.8%) from three-point range.

Lindsey Garrison led four Bison in double figures with 21 points.  Bethany shot 30-of-59 (50.8%) while knocking down an impressive 9-of-20 (45%) from three-point range and 21-of-25 (84%) from the foul line.

The women will try to break their five-game losing streak when they head to Westminster on Wednesday night for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
