Men’s Tennis Defeats Waynesburg on Senior Day in Season Finale

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team wrapped up its season on Tuesday afternoon, celebrating its lone senior, David Clark, prior to the match with Waynesburg.  The Golden Tornadoes then went on to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 6-1, to wrap up the season on a high note.

Geneva got off to a strong start in doubles play, winning all three matches.  Junior Braiden Smalley and freshman Ben Busler swept their opponents in No. 1 doubles, 6-0.  Clark and sophomore Thayne Bodenmiller won 6-1 in No. 2 doubles, and sophomore Ethan Mullen and freshman Simon Burkett won 6-3 in No. 3 doubles.  That earned the Golden Tornadoes the doubles point.

Smalley was again impressive in No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1.  Busler came through with a three-set victory in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.  Clark finished up his career with a win in No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Bodenmiller won in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1.  Mullen prevailed in No. 5 singles in three sets 6-7, 7-5, 10-7, while Burkett's match in No. 6 singles also went to three sets before Waynesburg eventually won.

"It's been a tough season, but it was good to get a couple wins here at the end of the season," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "It was especially good to see David to play well, who got to end his career with three wins."
