Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Narrowly Edged Out by Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – In the final match of their fall season, the Geneva men's tennis team took on Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Saint Vincent in a non-conference contest, narrowly dropping the match to the Bearcats 4-3. It was a hard-fought match by both sides, with multiple sets going to tiebreakers and not much to separate the two. The Golden Tornadoes are now 1-1 in the fall season.

Saint Vincent took each of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the evening. Freshmen Cody Clayton and Hunter Hazelwood had the closest result in No. 3 doubles, losing 6-3.

Singles play is where things got very close. Junior Ben Busler lost his first set in the top singles flight, 3-6, before taking a close third set 7-5. Down 6-9 in the third set, he won five straight games to take the set 11-9. Senior Thayne Bodenmiller won another close match in No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-6, 10-8. After falling behind 4-1 in the second set, he completed an improbably comeback to earn the victory. Hazelwood gave the GTs their final point, winning his match in No. 5 singles 6-2, 3-6, 11-9.

The match wraps up the fall season for the Golden Tornadoes, barring another match being scheduled later in the semester. Their attention will turn to preparing for the spring.
