Men’s Tennis Secures Important PAC Win Over Westminster

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva men's tennis team hosted Westminster College on the Blackhawk Courts Monday night, and the Golden Tornadoes emerged victorious, winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup 5-2. It is the second time this schoolyear that the men have defeated Westminster, with the first instance coming in the fall semester. Geneva's record improves to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the PAC, with the victory giving the men an important tiebreaker over the Titans that could prove crucial when the PAC playoffs roll around.

Geneva began the match well, winning two out of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point, something they have struggled to do in recent matches. Senior Braiden Smalley and freshman Evan Hancock combined for a 6-3 victory in No. 2 doubles, while senior Owen Landis and freshman Joseph Kenneally also won their match in the third doubles flight by a score of 6-4.

The GTs didn't slow down in singles play either. Smalley beat Westminster's No. 1 with ease, winning 6-1, 6-1. Junior Thayne Bodenmiller won the No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-4, and then Landis took the deciding point of the match with a 6-4, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 slot. Hancock contributed a point in No. 6 singles as well, winning 6-3, 6-3, to round out Geneva's victory.

The men will face one of the toughest teams in the PAC tomorrow, March 31, in Grove City College. That match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
