Men’s Tennis Sees Season End in Quarterfinals

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Geneva men's tennis team returned to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) playoffs Tuesday evening, playing in their first postseason match since 2024, but they wound up falling to Franciscan University. The Barons proved to be too much, defeating Geneva 4-2 in their quarterfinal matchup. The Golden Tornadoes finish out the season with a 5-9 record overall.

In a rematch of their PAC contest just five days ago, Franciscan and Geneva battled to very similar results as they did last week. In fact, the only flight with a different result was No. 1 doubles, which the Barons won to sweep the doubles competition.

Like Friday's match, Geneva earned wins in No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Junior Thayne Bodenmiller won the fourth flight 6-1, 7-5 for the GTs' first point of the day. Freshman Evan Hancock won the only other point for Geneva, defeating his opponent in No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-3.

The match brings to an end the careers of Braiden Smalley, Owen Landis, and Bodenmiller, all of whom have been important contributors to the program. Smalley ends his career as Geneva's all-time leader in singles victories, amassing 32 over the last four years.
