ALIQUIPPA, Pa. – Seniors Hailey Carroll and Andrew Ubinger were honored on Tuesday night at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Scholar-Athlete Banquet. The pair were recognized as two of the top scholar-athletes in the conference who excelled both athletically and academically throughout their careers, while also having a positive impact on campus and in the community.
Carroll, from Fairfax, Virginia, graduated last weekend with a degree in psychology and a minor in sports coaching. She is planning to work on a master's degree next year at Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Carroll has put together one of the best running careers in recent Geneva history, and her senior season has been her best. She began breaking school records as a freshman and currently holds six different indoor and outdoor track and field records. She's also been a standout on the cross country team, earning All-PAC honors every year she has competed while twice finishing third overall at the PAC Championships. Carroll also qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship Cross Country Meet twice, and she holds four of the top six individual cross country 6K times in women's program history. She was a key part of this year's women's trifecta of winning the PAC Cross Country, PAC Indoor Track and Field and the PAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earning Women's Most Valuable Track Performer at the Outdoor Championships.
In the classroom, she graduated with a 3.62 GPA while receiving academic honors from the PAC, NCCAA and CSC, while also earning a spot on the Dean's List. She was a captain on the cross country and track and field teams, while also serving three years as a member of Geneva's SAAC. She's also been regularly involved at her church over the past four years, College Hill Reformed Church.
Ubinger, from Valencia, Pennsylvania, graduated with a degree in Physics with Secondary Education. He is continuing his education next year at Boston College where he will be pursuing a M.A. in Theology and Ministry.
Ubinger is one of the best men's volleyball players in program history as a four-year starter and a three-year captain. He earned All-PAC honors the past two seasons and played an important role on Geneva's 2023 AMCC Championship team. He finished his career with 714 kills, 879 assists, 714 digs, 156 blocks and 98 aces, becoming the first four-year player since at least 2013 (as far back as Division III national records are available) to finish his career with over 700 kills, assists and digs. His name is in the Geneva record book in several categories.
Ubinger has excelled in the classroom with a 3.96 GPA, receiving numerous academic honors from the PAC, AMCC, NCCAA and CSC while completing all three of Geneva's honors programs. He's been an active leader on campus, serving as a Resident Assistant for two years while also serving as a student-assistant coach on the women's volleyball team. Outside of Geneva, he attends St. Augustine Parish and has served as a Camp Director at cub scout camp, camp Akela.
