Geneva Responds in Conference Showdown; Defeats Saint Vincent 3-2
Latrobe, PA – Geneva showcased three straight set wins Tuesday night to edge Saint Vincent. The Bearcats enjoyed the home court advantage in sets one and two but the Golden Tornadoes salvaged the match earning a 3-2 win thanks to a 17-15 five set victory. The 12-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 17-15 decision lifts Geneva's overall record to 9-16, 7-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Saint Vincent's record moves to 10-12, 3-8 in the PAC.
Allyssa Kerr's kill leveled the scoreboard 7-7 in set five.
Erica Hughes took it from there. Her 29 kill night included kills to equalize set five at 11, 13 and 15. With Hughes on the service line, Alexis Jordan put down the final kill (16-15). A Bearcat attack error sealed the win for the Golden Tornadoes.
Daphne Hunsinger also tallied double digit kills with 10 during her 46 assist night. Kerr finished the night with seven kills.
Grace Holdeman led the defense with 26 digs supported by Jordan with 22.
Geneva last faced Washington & Jefferson (8-9, 5-6 PAC) on September 6 in a season opener thriller. The Golden Tornadoes fought for a 3-2 (
26-24,23-25,22-25,25-22,15-7) win over the Presidents. On Thursday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. the teams meet again, this time in President territory.
