Overtime Battle at Grove City Ends in a Draw
Grove City, PA - For the first time since October of 2015, the Geneva College men's soccer team ended a game in a draw against a conference team. The 1-1 score on the road against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rivals, the Grove City Wolverines, Geneva move to an overall record of 9-2-2, 3-0-1 in PAC play.

"It was a hard fought college soccer match today. Both teams pushed each other to the limit," said head coach Gary Dunda. "Every PAC match is difficult, especially away ones. We no must prepare for a good W&J team."

With fifteen minutes left in the first half, senior Abel Carleton put a ball on frame from the top of the box, but the Grove City goalkeeper was able to make the save to keep the score 0-0. The host had a good one touch effort but junior goalkeeper Luke Nolan made a diving effort to keep the score even. In the 32nd minute, the Wolverines had a free kick opportunity outside the box, but again Nolan was up to the task to keep the Golden Tornadoes alive in the contest.

After 39 minutes of play, the Wolverines were able to sneak a goal in past the defense when they were able to score on a 3v2 counter attack for 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Broadwick gave new life to the visitors in the second half with his finish in the 56th minute. Senior defender Spencer Edwards struck a driven ball at the goal that the keeper was able to deflect away to the feet of Broadwick. Broadwick quickly finished the rebound to even the score at 1-1.

In the 83rd minute, the Wolverine had an aggressive counter attack coming down the weak side of the field. Senior defender Gib McCracken defended the oncoming attack to deflect the ball wide and keep the 1-1 score.

In the first overtime period, both sides remained neck and neck as both teams generated some offense early on in the period. The Wolverines forced Nolan to make a pair of saves in the period.

Again late in the second overtime period, Nolan was forced to make a one on one save to prevent the Wolverines from scoring. The Golden Tornadoes applied pressure through the end of the second overtime, even earning a free kick in the final seconds of the contest.

The hosts outshot the GTs 21-19 forcing Nolan to make eight saves in the contest.

Geneva returns home after its last two away games on Saturday (Oct. 14) when it hosts Washington and Jefferson for a PAC doubleheader with the women. The men are scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m.
