Geneva’s 541 Yard Offensive Performance Falls Short at CMU
Pittsburgh, PA – Geneva's stellar 541 total offense, 493 rushing yard performance against the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans (CMU) wasn't enough Saturday afternoon. CMU's scoring overwhelmed the Golden Tornadoes in a 42-27 final. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss moves Geneva's overall record to 3-3, 2-2 in the PAC. The Tartans raise their record to 6-1, 4-1 in the PAC.
Silent in the first, Geneva trailed 7-0 to CMU entering the second quarter. The hosts stuck again early in the second, 14-0.
Trewon Marshall broke the silence with a 77-yard rushing touchdown in a one play drive.
Andrew Dowler's good kick moved the score to 14-7. The hosts answered Geneva with two more touchdowns, which would ultimately be enough for the win. Before the half,
Bryan Stafford connected with
Jacob Mclaughlin for a 33-yard pass touchdown. The combined 35-point second quarter allotted a 28-14 halftime score.
CMU tallied another seven points in the third (35-14).
The Golden Tornadoes fourth quarter rally started in the air.
Harrison Kozlow's 26-yard touchdown catch closed the gap to 35-21. Rory Hubbard's 92-yard touchdown kickoff return and Tyler Kohman good kick handed CMU their final 42 points.
Stafford moved the chains for a 12 play, 62 yard last scoring drive. He broke into the Tartan's endzone with 5:31 remaining on the clock. The senior quarterback finished the day with 147 rushing yards on 22 carries, 1 TD. In the air, he went 2-4-1 posting 59 yards, 2 TD.
Marshall led Geneva's attack with 217 yards on 32 carries. The junior out of Quaker Valley holds the fourth highest single season rushing record with 1,238 current yards. His efforts in Pittsburgh helped Geneva reach a stellar 541 total offensive yards, 475 total rushing yards.

th ranked Case Western Reserve University matched program records with 49 points in the first half and 28 points in the second quarter alone, on the way to a 63-28 win over Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. The 6-0, 5-0 in the PAC Spartans are set to visit College Hill on Saturday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. for another promising competitive contest at Reeves Hill.
