Hughes Puts On Show in Last Metheny Performance
Beaver Falls, PA – Senior Erica Hughes will go down in history as one of the best outside hitters at Geneva College. During her senior night showdown, Hughes displayed another outstanding offensive surge with 26 kills, raising her career record to 1,315. Geneva's 3-1 (25-10, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15) win over Grove City raises its record to 9-18, 8-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The conference rival decision lowers the Wolverine's record to 9-15, 6-7 in the PAC.
 
On her way to 26 kills, Hughes pegged seven in the first set, leading Geneva to a quick 25-10 win. Momentum shifted drastically in set two as Geneva was served a 25-19 set two loss.
 
In a back-and-forth set three battle, Alexis Jordan's time on the service line lifted Geneva 21-17. Hughes put down the winning point in set three; 25-22.
 
Geneva's 16-13 set four advantage was the largest gap since the starting game whistle. The Golden Tornadoes seized the lead and ran with it, outscoring Grove City 9-2 for the game and match win (25-15).
 
Jordan finished the night with eight kills. Daphne Hunsinger tallied 35 assists and lead Geneva's service efforts with four aces. On defense, Grace Holdeman earned 28 digs supported by Hunsinger with 17 and Jordan with 16. As a team, Geneva out blocked Grove City seven the three.
 
Geneva will close out the regular season with five road games starting in Kentucky. The Thomas More Saints (21-5, 12-0 PAC) will host the Golden Tornadoes on Wednesday, October 18 starting at 6:00 p.m.
