Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva men's soccer kept it's high energy offense alive as they sailed to a 6-0 victory on Wednesday night (Oct.4) over the visiting Saint Vincent Bearcats. The Golden Tornadoes are now 2-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, 8-2-1 overall. The loss moves Saint Vincent to an overall record of 3-8-1, 0-2 in conference play.
"I like the fact that a lot of guys played and played well tonight," said head coach
Gary Dunda after the match. "I think that every PAC game, is difficult it doesn't matter who we are playing. Saint Vincent had a great game plan that really slowed us down at first, but I appreciated ours guys having patience and the effort made to keep playing our style; in the end we were able to find the back of the net a few times. Now we are just ready for Westminster."
The GTs applied pressure early in the match as they earned a corner in the opening seventy seconds of the game. Senior
Abel Carleton kept the pressure alive as he released a shot that went just wide of the frame. Geneva continued to dominate the offensive side of the ball as it had 17 shots in the first half alone and did not allow Saint Vincent to take a single shot in the opening half.
Sophomore midfielder
Jake Broadwick had his first start tonight after missing games due to injury, but he did not let his time off slow him down.
Liam O'Halloran started the run to goal with a quick pass to senior
Josh Brenize. Brenize deliberately found the foot of Broadwick who scored the opening goal of the game at the far post.
Before the closing of the half, freshman midfielder
Noah O'Barsky placed ball to the post to score his first career goal after the goalkeeper failed to cleanly stop
Devaughn Johns attempted finish.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, senior
Gib McCracken finished a free kick from outside the box for the 3-0 lead. Pressure did not slow down as within the next couple minutes, Carleton connected with O'Halloran for his ninth goal of the season and the 4-0 score.
Saint Vincent received its first shot of the match that missed just wide of the post with twenty eight minutes left in the match. Quickly after, the Bearcats earned a free kick outside of the box. Goalkeeper
Adam Voelker made a save as he collected the dangerous ball in the box.
With eighteen minutes left to play, Carleton ran down the line before connecting with
James Mincone, who slid the ball right into
Jo Ozaki. Ozaki scored his first goal of the season giving Geneva the 5-0 lead.
Not wanting to waste time,
Clayton Cox connected with a pass from
Kevin Pasho to give the host the 6-0 final score.
Geneva maintained its offensive pressure through-out the remaining minutes. The hosts outshot the visitors 29-5 and won the battle of the corners 9-1.
Geneva will keep record chasing as it remains undefeated in conference action. Geneva will have its first away match of conference action on Saturday, October 7 when they travel to Westminster to take on the Titans at 1 p.m.
