Volleyball Responds to Upset; Rolls over Franciscan 3-0
Beaver Falls, Pa – Errors proved costly in Metheny Fieldhouse Wednesday night. Geneva's .085 team hitting percentage didn't help the Golden Tornadoes against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Chatham. Chatham upset Geneva 3-2 (25-17, 25-22, 10-25, 23-25, 12-15) in the first match of the night. Geneva responded to end the night in three sets. Geneva rolled over Franciscan 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-11). The 1-1 night moves Geneva's overall record to 7-15, 5-3 PAC. Chatham tallied a neutral non-conference win over Franciscan between the Golden Tornado action. Chatham's sweep raises its record to 9-8, 2-8 in the PAC. Franciscan's record lowers to 4-12.
Leading the Golden Tornadoes against the Cougars was senior outside hitter
Erica Hughes with 17 kills. Sydney McNulty contributed to the efforts with 11. Setting up the offense,
Daphne Hunsinger earned 35 assists. Around the net,
Allyssa Kerr and
Millicent Dofelmier each showcased four blocks. On defense,
Grace Holdeman gathered 32 digs.
Hughes added 13 more kills against Franciscan for a 30 count night. Hunsinger set for another 21 assists while Dofelmier added to her night with three more blocks. Holdeman's 18 digs over the Cougars earns a total of 50.
Geneva is just getting started this week. The Golden Tornadoes host another PAC tri-match on Saturday, October 4 to host Waynesburg at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. match against Westminster during Homecoming weekend.
