Home Proves Friendly Again for the Come-Back Win
Beaver Falls, PA - Despite going down 1-0 in the opening half of play, the Geneva College women's soccer team exploded back into the game for the 3-1 win over the visiting Saint Vincent Bearcats. The home turf win moves Geneva to 1-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 4-6 overall for the season. The Bearcats drop to 0-2 in conference action, 0-9-1 overall.
The Bearcats opened shooting in the match as their first attempt on goal went wide in the opening twenty seconds. Freshman
Erin Houser got the first shot off for the home team from the top of the box, but the Bearcat goalkeeper was up to the task.
The Bearcats broke into scoring 34 minutes into the half to take the 1-0 lead. The Golden Tornadoes would not be shut out at home, as Houser took a corner kick that was deflected away from the box. Center-midfielder
Bailey Milroy collected the ball and scored her second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Freshmen midfielder
April Mann tried to jump start the offense with thirty minutes left in the game when she took a shot that deflected just off the cross bar. With the new drive coming from the close miss, Houser was able to end her scoring drought and find the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Junior
Hannah Sleight hit a cross from far right of the field to the boot of Houser for the game winner and the 2-1 score.
Erica Sumner rounded off scoring for the squad when she was able to finish the rocket that
Justice Newland fired at the keeper who deflected the ball wide for Sumner to give Geneva the 3-1 score.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Dani Lincoln earned her fourth win of the season where she made two saves. The Golden Tornadoes out shot their opponents 24-7 and earned 3 corners to their 1.
The team will try to keep momentum going from the win as they travel to Westminster College on Saturday (Oct.7) to take on the Titans. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
