Volleyball Splits at Homecoming
Beaver Falls, PA – Waynesburg swarmed College Hill Saturday, competing in both volleyball and football contests during the Golden Tornadoes Homecoming weekend. Volleyball started the day off right with a three set match win over the Yellow Jackets (25-15, 25-14, 25-19). The final match of the day featured the Westminster Titans defeating the hosts 3-2 (20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 7-15). Geneva volleyball is now 8-16 overall for the season and 6-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Senior
Erica Hughes continues to be an offensive force for the GTs. Her 10 kills led Geneva back into the PAC win column set up by rookie
Daphne Hunsinger with 26 assists. Geneva protected the net with six blocks. Defensively,
Alexis Jordan led the Golden Tornadoes dig count with 13 supported by Hunsinger with 11.
The Titans defeated the Yellow Jackets in three straight sets during the neutral game of the tri-match.
With both teams coming off a win for the day, third match got under way with a Geneva set one victory (25-19). Geneva earned the first point of the match off a Hughes kill, which would be the theme of the set as she had seven kills in set one.
Westminster responded in aggression as they won the first 7 points of set two. They continued their aggressive play throughout the remainder of the set for the Titan set two victory.
Set three went back and forth between the two teams with three lead changes late in the set. Despite drawing even at 20, the GTs could not retake the lead for the fourth time dropping set three to Westminster. Set four continued the pattern of the match for both teams. Geneva won the first point of the set with a kill down the line by
Sydney McNulty. The home team kept its pace up jumping to a quick 13-8 lead, never losing the lead to win set four.
The Titans made quick work of the host in set five, scoring ten unanswered points. After the side change, Geneva was able to score a few points, but Westminster put away the match three games to two.
Geneva heads on the road to Saint Vincent, Tuesday, October 10 hoping to find another PAC win on the road. Opening set is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
