Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Geneva Women Knock off Clarks Summit

Beaver Falls, PA—The Geneva College women's basketball team got back into the win column on Saturday afternoon as it knocked off Clarks Summit University, 65-42, in the final non-conference matchup of the season.  Geneva improved to 3-8, while Clarks Summit fell to 0-10.

Geneva jumped out early to a 6-0 lead before Clark Summit responded by cutting the lead down to 8-6.  From there the Golden Tornadoes took over against the shorthanded Defenders, who had only seven players available to play.  Geneva went on a 24-4 run over the next ten minutes, and midway through the second quarter, Geneva had stretched its lead to 32-10.  Clark Summit finished the half on a 10-2 run, though, to close the gap to 34-20 heading into the halftime break.  Junior Callie Ford led the team in the first half, with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Clarks Summit continued its run to begin the second half, scoring the first five points to cut the deficit to single digits, 34-25.  Senior Lydia Songer scored the next five points as Geneva reasserted itself with an 11-0 run to push the lead back out to 45-25, and the game was never in jeopardy again.  The large lead allowed Head Coach Lori Wynn to get a number of players into the game, and the lead grew to as big as 65-38 before the Golden Tornadoes closed out the victory, 65-42.

"We really looked to push the pace today," Coach Wynn said after the game.  "I thought we executed our transition game well today.  It was a good all-around game as we got contributions from everyone.  This was a good tune-up for our first game back after the break as we prepare for PAC competition starting next week."

Ford led the offense with 28 points and 15 rebounds.  Senior Rachel Moore had her best game of the year with 6 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman Alexis Gates added 10 points and 8 rebounds.  Overall Geneva shot 44% from the floor, while holding the Defenders to just 26% shooting.

Geneva heads back out onto the road next Wednesday, January 3, for a game against rival Grove City at 5:30 p.m.  Geneva returns to Metheny Fieldhouse next Saturday, January 6, when it welcomes the high powered Thomas More Saints for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
