Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Fall at Grove City

Grove City, PA—On Wednesday evening the Geneva College women's basketball team returned to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action when it traveled to Grove City College to take on the Wolverines.  The Golden Tornadoes fell behind early and were never able to get into the game, eventually falling 94-51.  Geneva's record dropped to 3-9 overall, 0-5 in the PAC, while Grove City improved to 6-5 overall, 2-3 in the PAC.

Any hopes Geneva had off picking up a road victory disappeared early as Grove City scored the first eight points en route to a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Geneva's deficit continued to grow in the second quarter as Grove City overwhelmed the visiting Golden Tornadoes, and Geneva found itself in a big hole, 51-23, going into the halftime break.  Junior Callie Ford led the team in the half with eight points.

The third quarter proved to be more competitive, in large part due to the play of Ford who scored 11 points in the quarter.  Geneva still trailed, 74-41, at the end of the third quarter before eventually losing 94-51.

"Grove City played really well," Head Coach Lori Wynn said afterwards.  "We weren't able to match that intensity and struggled with turnovers.  We'll learn from this and get better."

Geneva struggled throughout the game defensively, as Grove City shot 48% from the floor, including 9-21 from 3-point range.  Grove City also dominated the boards, outrebounding Geneva 50-32.  The offense also never found a rhythm as Geneva shot just 31% from the floor and committed 22 turnovers.  Ford led the team with 20 points.

Geneva returns home on Saturday, January 6, for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off against the high-powered Saints from Thomas More.  Thomas More comes into the contest 12-1 overall, 6-0 in the PAC, including a #8 ranking in the NCAA Division III polls.
