Home Proves Enough to End the Drought
Beaver Falls, PA – After a scoreless first half in the heat of the afternoon, the Golden Tornadoes were able to put away a 1-0 victory at home.
Erin Houser's second game winner was enough to move the overall record to 3-5 before the start of conference play next weekend. This was the first win for Geneva since its victory over Medaille in the beginning of September.
"I couldn't be more proud of our girls today," commented head coach
Linda Sumner. "It was a great team win and great confidence boost before we head into the tough competition of our conference."
The Pioneers were almost able to break into the scoring column in the opening ten minutes of the second half, however
Dani Lincoln was able to tip the ball just over the bar high of the goal for the save. With momentum shifting their way, junior
Justice Newland took off down the sideline before delivering a cross to freshman Houser who placed the ball in the back for the go away lead in the 57
th minutes of the game.
The aggressive play continued for both sides as play continued. In the last fifteen minutes of the game, Point Park yet again applied heavy pressure to the home side, yet Lincoln and the defensive line was up to the task as they successful defended their home field against 21 shots and five corner kicks.
Geneva will rest up with only one game scheduled for next week. The opening of Presidents' Athletic Conference play will begin for at home as the Bethany College Bison travel to Beaver Falls on Friday, September 29 for a 5:00 p.m. kick-off.
