Geneva Tops Behrend; Program Posts Best Start in Over 20 Years
Erie, Pa. – Geneva topped Penn State Behrend on Saturday 9-0, posting the program's best start in over 20 years. The 8-0 Golden Tornadoes have sealed two conference wins, four straight 9-0 victories.
"It was great to get a quick win on a super-hot day," said head coach
Mandee Craft. "We'll need a quick recovery for Westminster Monday."
Rachael Letterman and
Sara Stoll took first singles 8-3 while
Grace Moyer and
Jana Newberry earned an 8-2 decision. Third doubles duo
Victoria Hinds and
Laura Anderson posted a flawless 8-0 win.
On Monday, September 25 Geneva is set to host all-time rival Westminster at the Blackhawk courts. Westminster enters the match with a winning streak of its own at four (Bethany, Saint Vincent, Waynesburg, and Thiel). The Presidents' Athletic Conference match will begin at 6:00 p.m.
The singles matches were kept short playing to eight rather than two six-point matches. Letterman and Stoll each showcased an 8-2 win in first and second spots. Moyer tallied an 8-3 third singles win while Hinds went 8-1 in the fourth spot.
Felicity Orndoff in fifth singles and
Laura Anderson in sixth singles each earned perfect marks over their opponents, 8-0.
