New Faces Light Up the Scoreboard in Conference Home Victory
Beaver Falls, PA – The Golden Tornadoes showed the depth of their bench in their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opening match. With two bench players scoring opening goals, Geneva men's soccer defeated the visiting Bethany College Bison 4-0 for their continued conference undefeated streak. Going back to the start of last season, the Golden Tornadoes have not lost a conference match since their PAC conference final defeat to Westminster College in 2015. Geneva will move forward in conference competition with an overall record of 7-2-1 dropping Bethany to 5-6.
Senior
Abel Carleton opened shooting for both teams with a quick turn and shoot that the Bethany goalkeeper was able to scramble for the save.
Geneva continued to win the offensive battle as it had 8 of corners in the first half.
Michael Pohlod fired a rocket from one of those corners with 17 minutes remaining in the half that the Bison keeper was able to deflect it away. Pohlod would not be denied much longer as he finished a short cross to the far post for his first goal of the season. His feed came from a double assist including senior midfielder
Josh Brenize and junior forward
Liam O'Halloran.
Geneva remained in high pressure mode with its corner kicks. Sophomore midfield
Jake Broadwick took a quick short corner to defensive back
Cameron Barnes. Barnes took a quick touch to settle before driving the ball to the far post for the 2-0 score completing his first goal of the season.
Geneva continued pressure early in the second forty five applying four shots in the first six minutes of action. Senior
Abel Carleton tore down the line beating two defenders to force another corner kick in the first three minutes of action. Carleton remained aggressive until it paid off. With 27 minutes left to go in the half, Carleton finished a back door cross from O'Halloran for his fourth goal of the season.
Luke Nolan remained on his toes as he responded to a deflected shot late in the second half to keep the shut out alive before turning around to cut off another dangerous one on one eliminating a visitor finish.
As the clock continued to wind down, another new face broke onto the scoreboard.
Kevin Pascho scored his first career goal when he finished a rebound after the Bethany goalkeeper stopped the previous two quick shots for the 4-0 final score.

Geneva will rest up before hosting the Saint Vincent Bearcats on Wednesday, October 4 for 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
