Bison Stun Home Squad in Double Overtime
Beaver Falls, PA – For the first time at home this season, the Geneva College women's soccer team allowed three goals at home in their 3-2 double overtime defeat. The visiting Bethany Bison were able to regain their first half lead for the victory to seal their first Presidents' Athletic Conference win. The loss moves the home squad to an overall record of 3-6 starting conference play with a loss. The Bison are now 3-7.

"Clearly we did not come out as strong as we would have liked," commented head coach Linda Sumner. "We have some work to do in practice this week; we need to do better from the start."

Junior midfielder Lexi Metz opened scoring for Bethany after Dani Lincoln made a diving first save. Bethany was able to convert again eleven minutes later to score the Bison's final regulation goal.

Geneva made an impact on the game in last twenty-six minutes of regulation when junior forward Franki Whritenour was able to finish a shot off an initial save by the Bethany goalkeeper.

With nine minutes left to go in the game, Erica Sumner forced the Bison defender to foul in the box to force a penalty kick. Freshman midfielder April Mann proved her confidence as she converted the penalty kick to tie the game at two.

As time wound down in regulation, Lincoln was able to cut off a final shot to force overtime for the second time this season.

Applying pressure early in overtime, Sam Thompson took a free kick outside the box that the goalkeeper was barely able to deflect away. Thompson had another opportunity two minutes later that was also sent wide to force the second overtime.

Despite outshooting the visitors 28-10, 16 of those shots being on frame, the Bison stunned the Golden Tornadoes by converting their third goal of the game in the 104 minute after a deflection from the keeper's hands.
Lincoln finished the game with three saves after facing 10 shots. Geneva forced the opposing keeper to make 13 saves.

The loss will have to become a forgotten memory as Geneva will turn around to host the Saint Vincent Bearcats next Wednesday (October 4) at 4:30 p.m.
