Geneva Defeats La Roche 6-2, Remain Unbeaten

Pittsburgh, PA – Coming off one of the biggest wins in recent history on Saturday night against Ohio Northern, the Geneva College men's soccer team needed to guard against a letdown on the road on Wednesday afternoon at La Roche College. There was certainly no let down as the Golden Tornadoes stormed past the Redhawks 6-2. The victory improved Geneva's overall record to 3-0 while La Roche remained winless at 0-3.

It didn't take long for Geneva's explosive offense to strike as Liam O'Halloran netted the game's first goal with an unassisted effort in the fifth minute. Less than two minutes later, Geneva doubled its lead on an unassisted goal from Gib McCracken. La Roche quickly cut the lead in half before Geneva posted goals three and four prior to the halftime whistle. Jake Broadwick and Spencer Edwards each scored their first goals of the season to stretch Geneva's lead after 45 minutes.

The second half proved to be much of the same as the Golden Tornadoes featured their depth with most of their starters taking the rest of the day off. Goalkeeper Luke Nolan played just the first half in allowing just his second goal of the season. Adam Voelker and Nate Burkhart split the goalkeeping duties in the second half in getting their first action of the new season.

Abel Carlton increased Geneva's lead minutes into the second half before McCracken closed out the scoring with his second tally of the game.

Geneva out shot LaRoche 11-7 on the match but the flow of play clearly favored the Golden Tornadoes throughout the afternoon. "I am extremely proud of how focused we were to start today," commented head coach Gary Dunda "We were ready as soon as the whistle blew. I give all the credit to our senior class making sure we earned another win today."

Geneva has earned itself a much needed rest before heading back to game action in one week when it begins a three-game home stand next Wednesday night against Mt. Union in a 7 pm scheduled kick-off. The Golden Tornadoes will complete that home stand against Fredonia State (Sept. 16) and Franciscan (Sept. 18).
