LATROBE, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team finished off its regular season well, traveling to Saint Vincent College and defeating the Bearcats 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes finished the regular season 7-5 overall, 4-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Saint Vincent fell to 5-4, 3-3 in the PAC.
Geneva won the match with its play in singles action. Saint Vincent won two of the three doubles matches to start off, with junior
Victoria Hinds (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) and sophomore
Bekah Locke (Atwater, Ohio/Marlington) Geneva's only winner in #3 doubles. However, Geneva won five of the six singles matches, with junior
Rachael Letterman (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area), senior
Katherine Deitrick (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), senior
Michelle Kisiel (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands), junior
Jana Newberry (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), and Hinds all picking up wins.
"This was a huge win for us," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "To bounce back after they took the edge in doubles showed a lot of determination from our team, and I'm really proud of how we fought."
Geneva must now wait to find out where and who it will play next Tuesday in the first round of the PAC playoffs. The Golden Tornadoes won't know their seed and opponent until all the PAC teams have completed their seasons at the end of this week.
