Road Trip Helps Geneva Get Back on Track
Road Trip Helps Geneva Get Back on Track
Alfred, NY – Sometimes the best way for a struggling team to get back on track is to simply hit the road. On Tuesday, the Geneva College men's soccer team did just that as it boarded the bus for a trip to Alfred, NY to take on Alfred State in a non-conference match-up. The Golden Tornadoes, who had dropped their last two conference matches, used the trip as a way to get back into the win column with a 2-0 decision on Tuesday.  The victory pushed Geneva's overall record to 6-7-1 and more importantly gave the Gold and White some momentum heading into the final ten days of the regular season.

"This was a good team win," said head coach Gary Dunda. "A lot of guys played very well against a talented team from Alfred State. I was extremely proud of our effort."

The teams battled to a scoreless tie for much of the first half until Geneva's Liam O'Halloren fed a ball through the Alfred defense and onto the foot of Kevin Pasho who did the rest with his fourth goal of the season in the 23rd minute. Just 13 minutes later, Nate Beine took a feed from Chase Baxa in the box and launched a shot into the upper corner of the net to extend Geneva's lead.

The two first half goals would be all the Golden Tornadoes and goalkeeper Luke Nolan would need. Nolan, back in the net for Geneva, made four saves to pick up the shut-out victory.

For the match, Geneva out shot Alfred State 13-5 and controlled the possession for most of the afternoon.

Geneva will hope to gain some momentum from Tuesday's victory as they will again hit the road on Friday as it heads back into PAC play with a match at Thiel College scheduled for 6:30 PM. The final week of the regular season will feature home matches against Waynesburg next Wednesday and a non-conference match against old friend Thomas More a week from Saturday. Geneva is still in the hunt for a post-season berth but will need two wins and some help along the way.
