Beaver Falls, PA – The Geneva College men's soccer senior class has certainly enjoyed its share of great moments over the last four years. On Saturday, the seniors enjoyed one last victory with a 2-1 win over long-time nemesis Thomas More College in a non-conference match to end the season. The Golden Tornadoes didn't get the results they needed to sneak into the PAC post-season but they did get one more memory from a group of seniors that will be remembered for many years to come.
Geneva's victory on Saturday was the 51
st win for the seniors, which included the school's first PAC title back in 2016, which ironically came against the very team they finished their careers against on Saturday. For the season, Geneva moved its final record to 8-7-2 while the Saints fell to 4-11-2.
The Golden Tornadoes opened the scoring on a gorgeous header from DeVaughn Johns on a cross from
Jake Broadwick in the 32
nd minute. It was Johns' first goal of the 2018 campaign. Thomas More tied the game in the 53
rd minute, but Geneva took the lead for 14 minutes later on another head goal, but this one came from
David McKinley. The senior, playing his final collegiate game, headed in his third goal of the season for the eventual game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper
Luke Nolan picked up one more victory to close out his career.
"I can't say enough about these seniors," said head coach
Gary Dunda. "They have done everything they have been asked to do for the past four years and they will be remembered as one of the best classes we've ever had. They are all great players but more importantly they are great young men and great students. We are going to miss every one of them."
