Geneva Heading into PAC Tournament on a Hot Streak

Box Score Houghton, NY – The Geneva College women's volleyball team opens conference tournament play on Tuesday but spent the weekend at Houghton College getting tuned up. One day after taking care of the host Highlanders, the Golden Tornadoes picked up two more victories with a 3-0 win over Keuka College and a 3-2 victory over SUNY-Cortland. The doubleheader victory pushed Geneva's overall record to 18-11, including a five match winning streak heading into its quarter-final match against Grove City on Tuesday.

Geneva's day started by cruising past Keuka with set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-16, before being challenged against Cortland in a tough five-set victory by scores of 27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 32-34, 15-11. In the opener on Saturday, Geneva featured a balanced attack on offense with Sydney McNulty leading the way with six kills while Allyssa Kerr added five. Daphne Hunsinger picked up 23 assists while McKenna Shick posted 12 digs. McNulty was also tough on the service line with a team best six service aces.

In the night cap, McNulty was at it again with 18 kills to lead the Golden Tornadoes. Teammates Kacey Costal (14) and Kerr (12) also chipped in at the net. Hunsinger posted her seventh triple-double of the season by filling up the statistics sheet with 41 assists, 13 digs and ten kills. Shick added 29 digs in the victory over Cortland.

Geneva will now turn its attention back to the Presidents' Athletic Conference and Tuesday's quarter-final match against Grove City College scheduled to begin at 7 pm. Geneva swept the season series against Grove City with a pair of three-set victories. Tickets for Tuesday's match are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Geneva students can get in for free with their college ID.

"The play-offs are always and exciting time," said head coach Wendy Smith. "We are playing our best volleyball right now and this weekend was a great opportunity to continue to grow as a team. We are ready for the tournament and looking forward to a great atmosphere at Metheny Fieldhouse on Tuesday night."
