LATROBE, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team made the trip to Saint Vincent College on Wednesday afternoon in search of its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the season, and just like the women's soccer team the day before, the Golden Tornadoes prevailed over the Bearcats, 4-0, as senior
Liam O'Halloran (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) broke through with his first goal of the season. Geneva improved to 4-5-1, 1-1 in the PAC, while Saint Vincent fell to 1-10, 0-2 in the PAC.
Geneva got on the board early and often to effectively put the game away before the first half was even twenty minutes old. Junior
Michael Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) scored first off an assist from O'Halloran in the 13
th minute. Junior
Jake Broadwick (McKees Rocks, Pa./Robinson Township Christian) doubled the lead six minutes later off another feed from O'Halloran. Then just 40 seconds later, O'Halloran scored himself, this time unassisted as he dribbled through the defense and put it past the goalkeeper. Freshman
Alex Yoder (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) finished off the scoring in the half, and the game, with freshman
Colin Joyner (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) assisting on the goal.
The second half played out without anyone scoring further, as the Geneva defense effectively kept the Bearcats from posing much of an offensive threat, and the game finished out 4-0.
"It was good to get our first PAC win today," said Head Coach
Gary Dunda. "All of the guys gave a good effort and fought hard for the win."
O'Halloran led the offense with a goal and two assists, as Geneva outshot Saint Vincent 14-4, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore
Nate Burkhart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) played the first half, needing to make only one save to keep the Bearcats off the board, while senior
Luke Nolan (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) finished the second half in goal for the shutout.
Geneva has two big home games coming up in the next week. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes host Westminster at 7:30 p.m. on Homecoming, and then next Wednesday, Geneva hosts Grove City at 7:00 p.m.
