Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Geneva Unable to Keep up with Hot Shooting Titans

New Wilmington, PA—The Geneva College men's basketball team traveled to Westminster College on Wednesday night and ran into a buzz-saw, as the Titans made 15 3-pointers on the night in wiping out an early Geneva lead for an 80-68 victory.  Geneva's overall record fell to 11-13, 7-10 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Westminster improved to 17-7 overall, 11-6 in the PAC.

Geneva got off to a hot start, as the Golden Tornadoes got 3-pointers from senior Jimmy Leichliter, junior Danny Torok, and sophomore Noah Damazo in building an 18-7 lead.  From there Westminster got red-hot from 3-point range.  Juniors Austin Armwood and Marco Delorenzo combined to make all ten 3-pointers they attempted in the first half, and no matter what defense the Golden Tornadoes attempted, they couldn't stop the Titans' barrage as Westminster came all the way back to take a 41-37 lead at the half.  Leichliter led the offense with 10 points.

Unfortunately for Geneva, Westminster stayed hot early in the second half, making its first three 3-pointers to take a 56-47 lead six minutes into the period.  Westminster eventually built the lead to 63-52 on another 3-pointer with just under ten minute remaining.  To Geneva's credit, it continued to hang around, even cutting the lead to 69-66, but it couldn't find a way to come all the way back against the Titans, losing 80-68.

"They shot the ball very well," Head Coach Jeff Santarsiero said afterwards.  "We did not execute our defensive plan tonight and Westminster took advantage of that.  We need to refocus for Saturday."

Leichliter scored a game-high 23 points to go with 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Ethan Moose was also in double figures with 13 points.  Geneva shot 45% from the field, but the Golden Tornadoes could not keep up with Westminster who shot 52% from the floor, including 15-24 (63%) shooting from 3-point range.  Armwood led the Titans with 21 points on seven 3-pointers.

Geneva finishes the regular season with a road trip to Waynesburg on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.  Geneva is currently the #6 seed in the PAC, which would put them on course to potentially play at Saint Vincent on Tuesday night in the first round of the playoffs.
