Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ford Hits 1,000 Career Points in Loss to Thomas More

Crestview Hills, KY—The Geneva College women's basketball team made what is likely its last trip to Thomas More for the foreseeable future, and it is undoubtedly a trip the Golden Tornadoes won't miss making.  Thomas More will be leaving the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) at the end of the season, and considering the Saints haven't lost a PAC game since 2012, there didn't figure to be a lot of drama in the outcome of the game.  Junior Callie Ford, though, entered the game needing just 17 points to hit 1,000 career points, and she did just that, scoring 18 points in the 108-43 loss.  The defeat dropped Geneva's overall record to 6-15, 3-11 in the PAC, while Thomas More improved to 20-1 overall, 14-0 in the PAC.

Thomas More scored the first 12 points of the game before a free throw from senior Rachel Moore finally put Geneva on the board.  The lead only continued to grow, as Geneva struggled to get stops against the powerful Saints offense.  Geneva trailed 35-10 at the end of the first quarter, and that lead eventually grew to 56-20 at halftime.  The Saints shot an impressive 69% from the floor in the half, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, while Geneva shot just 30%.  Ford led the offense with eight points in the half, while senior Lydia Songer added seven.

The second half did not go any better for Geneva, as the Saints continued to pour it on.  Thomas More led 87-33 at the end of the third quarter, and the only questions at that point were whether the Saints would break 100 points and whether Ford would get her 1,000th career point on the afternoon.  Both occurred, with Ford draining a short jumper with 8:05 remaining to push her over the mark.  That was the only drama left in the game as Thomas More eventually finished off the 108-43 victory.

"Thomas More is such a great team," Head Coach Lori Wynn said after the game.  "We couldn't rise to the challenge today.  But I'm so excited for Callie's milestone.  She's an incredibly hard worker and has improved each year.  We're excited she has another year with us!"

Ford led the offense with those 18 points.  Songer added nine points, but Geneva didn't get enough help from the rest of the team.  The Saints' all-PAC junior Madison Temple led Thomas More offensively with a game-high 20 points on the afternoon.  All told, Thomas More received points from 13 different players and ended the game shooting 67%, making 45-of-67 shots from the floor.

Geneva returns home for a Wednesday night tipoff with rival Grove City at 5:30 p.m.  Grove City comes into that contest 13-8 overall, 8-6 in the PAC.
