Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Geneva Narrowly Defeats Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md – The Geneva College men's tennis team finished up its spring break with a match at Frostburg State University on Saturday, and it came down to the final match as Geneva squeaked out a 5-4 win.  Geneva improved to 9-0 this year, while Frostburg State fell to 4-5.

In doubles action, freshmen Alex Beck and Nate Heidengren squeaked out a win in #1 doubles, 9-8 (6).  Abbott and sophomore Alex Greissinger also won in #2 doubles, 9-7.

In early singles action, junior Eric Abbott won #4 singles over his opponent 6-3, 7-5.  Senior Ethan Stahl won in #5 singles 6-4, 6-3.

That knotted the score at 4-4 with one match remaining.  Freshman Drake Greenstein came through in #3 singles with a three set tiebreaker 6-7, 6-1, 10-4, to win the match.

"This was a huge win for us to pull out," Head Coach Mandee Craft said.  Frostburg has a number of new faces on the court from when we beat them in the fall, and they gave us all we could handle.  But wow, did our guys step up when it mattered!  We can't wait to get the PAC season underway now."

Geneva will start the Presidents' Athletic Conference season on Monday, March 19, when the Golden Tornadoes travel to take on Saint Vincent at 12:00 p.m.  Geneva will then be back at home on Thursday, March 22, when it hosts Westminster at 6:00 p.m.
