Tennis Defeats Westminster

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team got back into the win column on Thursday afternoon, defeating Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Westminster at Brady's Run Indoor Courts, 6-3.  Geneva's record improved to 10-1, 1-1 in the PAC, while Westminster fell to 0-5, 0-1 in the PAC.

Geneva dominated the doubles competition.  Freshmen Alex Beck and Nate Heidengren won in #1 doubles, 8-5.  In #2 doubles, senior Ethan Stahl and junior Eric Abbott won 8-5 as well.  Finishing off the doubles competition was sophomore Alex Greissinger and freshman Drake Greenstein, and they won 8-1.

The two squads split the singles matches.  Beck lost a tough three set match 6-4, 1-6, 7-10 in #1 singles.  However, Heidengren won in #2 singles 6-3, 6-0, Abbott won in #5 singles 6-2, 6-0, and senior Jesse Hooke knocked of his opponent in #6 singles 6-3, 6-1.

"This was a big win for us," Head Coach Mandee Craft said.  "Both teams have improved a lot this year, so it was a much different match than last year.  Our doubles teams really took charge again and helped pull us through."

Geneva will travel to Bethany College next Tuesday, March 27, for a 4:00 p.m. match against the Bison.  The Golden Tornadoes will return home on Saturday, April 7, for a match against Thiel.
