BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – On Wednesday night the Geneva College men's tennis team hosted the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) first place Washington and Jefferson (W&J), and the visiting Presidents proved too strong for an improved Geneva squad, as they defeated the Golden Tornadoes 8-1. Geneva's record fell to 12-2, 3-2 in the PAC, while W&J improved to 10-2, 4-0 in the PAC.
Geneva's only win on the evening came in #1 doubles, where freshmen Alex Beck and Nate Heidengren teamed to defeat a very strong pairing from W&J. Geneva had several other close matches, but ultimately the Golden Tornadoes could not come up with any other wins.
"Washington and Jefferson is a strong, deep team," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "They are coming off a couple of big wins, and their confidence showed tonight. Alex and Nate played a fantastic match at first doubles to take out a formidable team."
Geneva will travel next to Grove City on Friday where the Golden Tornadoes will make-up a match with the Wolverines that was postponed earlier in the week due to the weather. Start time is 3:00 p.m.
