Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by Thomas More

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College softball team came into Saturday's doubleheader with Thomas More College riding a bit of momentum after winning its last three games.  Unfortunately, the Saints arrived with an undefeated record in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, and they left town still undefeated, beating Geneva by scores of 9-0 and 6-2.  Geneva's record is now 11-13, 3-7 in the PAC, while Thomas More improved to 20-12, 12-0 in the PAC.

Freshman Kyleigh Jo Ward started the first game, fresh off back-to-back impressive performances on Thursday and Friday afternoon.  Ward kept the high-powered Saints' offense in check until the fourth inning, when a Geneva error opened the door for a big inning, as the Saints took a 4-0 lead.

Ward was taken out after walking the first batter of the fifth, and freshman Vanessa Templeton struggled to slow down Thomas More, with the Saints adding five more runs.  Geneva failed to score in the bottom of the inning, and the game was called at that point due to the score, 9-0.

Geneva managed just three hits in the game, with Saints pitcher Alix DeDreu shutting down the Golden Tornado offense for a complete game shutout, moving her record to 12-4 on the season.  Ward took the loss, dropping her record to 3-5.

Sophomore Bobbi Ann Theiss took the mound in game two, and the Saints jumped on her early, scoring two runs in the second and four more in the third to go up 6-0.

Geneva got its only runs of the afternoon in the sixth inning, with junior Ericka Hess and freshman Melice Rodriguez driving in runs, but senior Laura Innocenzi was thrown out at the plate to end the inning, preventing the Golden Tornadoes from an even bigger inning.

Geneva collected six hits in game two, and Theiss took the loss, pitching six innings, to drop her record to 7-7.

Geneva will head back out onto the road on Tuesday when the Golden Tornadoes travel to W&J for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.  W&J enters those games 6-14, 2-6 in the PAC.
