Baseball Splits with D’Youville

BUFFALO, NY – On Tuesday afternoon the Geneva College baseball team played its last non-conference games of the season against D'Youville College.  The games were originally scheduled to be played in Beaver Falls, but because of the rain Geneva instead traveled to D'Youville to make sure the games got in, and Geneva came back with a split, winning game one 12-0, but dropping game two, 3-0.  Geneva's record is now 18-11, while D'Youville is 4-18.

In game one, Geneva jumped on D'Youville early, with two runs in the first on an RBI-double from senior Joey Luciana and an RBI-single from freshman Garrison Wieland.

Geneva continued to add runs, with three more in the third inning on a homer from Luciana and a two-RBI single from senior Tyler Pagaduan.  Geneva broke the game open with five runs in the fifth, as Luciana added two more RBIs on a bases-loaded single.  Geneva eventually closed out the game, 12-0.

Freshman pitcher Daunte Hill put together his best outing in the last month, going five innings while giving up just two hits and striking out seven, though he did issue six walks on the day.

Luciana continued to stay hot, going 3-for-5 with a homer, three runs, and four RBIs.  Junior Josh Baptiste was 4-for-4, while Pagaduan and senior Wesley Gibson each added three hits.

After getting 22 hits in game one, game two was a completely different story for the Golden Tornado offense.  Geneva could manage only three hits in the game off D'Youville starter Adam Lampman, who ended up throwing a complete game shutout.  D'Youville scored the only three runs of the game in the second inning off freshman Jason Bagliore, and the Golden Tornadoes lost game two, 3-0.

Geneva will next play Thomas More on Saturday for its final home games of the season, starting at 12:00 p.m.  The Golden Tornadoes will then finish the regular season next Friday at Thiel.
