BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its schedule on Friday night at Blackhawk Courts, falling just short against Mount Vernon Nazarene, 5-4, in a match that saw multiple points decided in third set tiebreakers. Geneva fell to 0-1 on the season, while Mount Vernon Nazarene improved to 1-0.
Geneva received a win from sophomores
Alex Beck and
Nate Heidengren in #1 doubles. The Golden Tornadoes also picked up wins by sophomore
Drake Greenstein in #3 singles, senior
Eric Abbott in #4 singles, and junior
Alex Greissinger in #5 singles.
In #3 doubles, Greissinger and sophomore Eli Grove lost a tough tiebreaker 9-8, while freshman Josiah Shaver fell just short in a third set tiebreaker in #6 singles.
"Although we didn't end up on the winning end of things tonight, this was a great first test," Head Coach
Mandee Craft said. "We all showed tremendous fight, and it could've gone either way."
The Golden Tornadoes will have two weeks off before they host Marietta College on Saturday, September 15, at 11:00 a.m.
