BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – On Saturday afternoon the Geneva College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 6-3 victory over visiting Marietta College. Geneva improved to 1-1 on the young season, while Marietta fell to 0-1.
Geneva won the match in doubles play, sweeping all three flights. Sophomores
Alex Beck and
Nate Heidengren teamed to win in #1 doubles, senior
Eric Abbott and junior
Alex Greissinger won in #2 doubles, and junior
Jesse Claudio and sophomore
Drake Greenstein picked up a win in #3 doubles.
The two teams split the singles flights, with Beck, Greenstein, and Abbott all picking up wins to secure the overall victory.
"We knew going in that Marietta would be a tough matchup for us," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "We actually got down a break in all three doubles matches, but we were able to come back in all three. We showed tremendous fight to pull those out, and then we got the singles wins we needed to get the team victory."
Geneva will have a bit of a break before it gets back out onto the court. The Golden Tornadoes next match is on Wednesday, September 26, when they travel to Waynesburg for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
