WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team played a non-conference match at Waynesburg on Wednesday night, and after dodging the rain, the Golden Tornadoes' slow start proved costly as Geneva lost 6-3. Waynesburg improved to 2-0 on the season, while Geneva fell to 1-2.
The doubles flights started off the match, and Geneva's sluggish start proved costly as the Golden Tornadoes lost in all three flights. Geneva tried to battle back during singles play, as juniors
Jesse Claudio (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and
Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy), along with sophomore
Drake Greenstein (Austin, TX/Stephen F. Austin) all picked up wins. Unfortunately, the hole from doubles proved too great a deficit to overcome as Geneva fell to the Yellow Jackets.
"We got off to a really slow start today in doubles," Head Coach
Mandee Craft said. "We can't do that and hope to grab five singles wins. We did pick it up in the singles matches, but it was really too little, too late."
Geneva has one more match before it finishes up the fall portion of its schedule. The Golden Tornadoes will host Penn State Behrend on Saturday, October 6, for an 11:00 a.m. match on Homecoming.
