Women’s Soccer Too Much for Bethany

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team got off to a good start as it opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday morning, with the Golden Tornadoes defeating visiting Bethany College, 4-0.  Geneva evened its overall record at 5-5, including 1-0 in the PAC, while Bethany fell to 3-7, 0-1 in the PAC.

Geneva got on the board in the 26th minute when sophomore Erin Houser (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) found the back of the next off an assist from senior Megan Schoeneweis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area).  That's where things stayed going into halftime.

The Golden Tornadoes doubled their lead early in the second half when Schoeneweis scored her team-high seventh goal of the season in the 51st minute.  Geneva then put the game away late with two goals in a three minute span in the closing minutes, the first by junior Erica Sumner (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver County Christian) followed closely by a second goal from Houser, giving Geneva the 4-0 win.

"It's obviously really good to get a win to start off conference play," said Head Coach Linda Sumner.  "I felt like we controlled the play for most of the game, and to win any game in conference by four goals is a very strong result.  This was a good start, but the PAC is a tough conference, so we'll need to continue to get better as the season progresses."

Geneva dominated the shot totals, with a 22-4 edge, including a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Junior Danielle Lincoln (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) picked up two saves for her fourth shutout of the season, the most in the PAC this year.

Geneva heads to Saint Vincent on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. match.  The Golden Tornadoes will then return home to take on Westminster at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Geneva's Homecoming.
