Women's Volleyball Advances in NCCAA Mideast Regional

LOUISVILLE, KY -- The Geneva College women's volleyball team made the first step towards a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) championship with a sweep over Welch College on Friday night in the semifinals of the NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament 25-9, 25-11, 25-19.  The tournament is being played at Boyce College.  Geneva improved to 23-9.

The match afforded Head Coach Wendy Smith the opportunity to play a number of players on Friday night.  The only set that was fairly competitive was the last set of the match, with Geneva winning the first two sets easily.

Senior Kacey Costal (Salem, Ohio/Salem) led the team with 11 kills on a .524 hitting percentage.  Senior Millicent Dofelmier (Mill Creek, Wash./Jackson) added seven kills on a .583 hitting percentage, while freshman Hope Shook (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) also added seven kills.  Junior Daphne Hunsinger (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) finished with 35 assists.  Sophomore Kayla Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) had a match-high 22 digs.

Geneva will face Johnson University of Tennessee tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. in the championship match of the Mideast Tournament.  The winner will get an automatic big to the national tournament next week at Bob Jones University, while the loser stands a good chance to earn an at-large bid.
