Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Tennis Drops First PAC Match to Bethany

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team dropped its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the year on Wednesday night, falling at home to Bethany College, 7-2.  Bethany improved to 6-2, 1-0 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 5-4, 1-1 in the PAC.

The match started poorly for the Golden Tornadoes, as Geneva was swept in all three doubles matches putting the Golden Tornadoes in a hole entering singles action.

Sophomore Alex Beck (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) lost a tough match in #1 singles, falling in a third set tiebreaker.  Sophomore Drake Greenstein (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) won his match in #3 singles, winning the first set 7-5 before his opponent retired at the beginning of the second set.  Freshman Josiah Shaver (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) was the only other Golden Tornado to pick up a point, winning in #6 singles 7-5, 6-3.

"Bethany is a very improved team from last year," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "They're really solid from top to bottom now, and we just couldn't get an edge."

The tennis team continues with its busy week with two more matches this week.  The Golden Tornadoes play home matches against Saint Vincent on Thursday and Grove City on Friday at Blackhawk Courts, both starting at 6:00 p.m.
