BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – For the second night in a row, the Geneva College men's tennis team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match, as Saint Vincent College defeated the Golden Tornadoes at Blackhawk Courts, 7-2. Saint Vincent improved to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 5-5, 1-2 in the PAC.
The match took a similar path as Geneva's match against Bethany the night before. The Golden Tornadoes lost all three matches in doubles play, putting Geneva in an early hole.
In singles play, just as in the previous night, sophomore
Alex Beck (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) took his opponent to three sets in #1 singles, only to fall in the tiebreaker. Sophomore
Drake Greenstein (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and junior
Alex Greissinger (Erie, Pa./Northwest PA Collegiate Academy) also had matches that went three sets in #3 and #4 singles, respectively, but both Golden Tornadoes were able to come up with wins over their opponents. Unfortunately, those were the only two points Geneva was able to come up with on the night.
"We got off to a slow start in doubles today, but I was proud of the way our team kept fighting in singles," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "Tennis is such a mental sport, so it can be hard to rebound when doubles goes that badly. But we were able to make a competitive match out of it."
Geneva's busy week continues with one final match, hosting preseason PAC favorite Grove City College at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow night at Blackhawk Courts.
