WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College baseball team continued its three-game series at first-place Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon, and the Golden Tornadoes didn't find much success against the Presidents. W&J won both games, 12-4 and 8-0. W&J improved to 22-9, 17-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Geneva fell to 6-21, 1-16 in the PAC.
In game one, W&J scored once in the first off starter
Jason Bagliore (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millenium), and then the Presidents broke the game open with five more runs in the bottom of the second. Freshman
Marshall Wheeler (Butler, Pa./Butler) relieved Bagliore to start the third, and W&J continued to pour on the runs, scoring three times in each of the third and fifth innings, making it 12-0.
Geneva got its offense going with three runs in the top of the sixth. Senior
Jericho Hilling (Williamsburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) drove in one run with a single, and freshman
Alex Fee (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) drove in two more with a single of his own. Sophomore
Garrison Wieland (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) added an RBI-single in the seventh to close out the scoring, 12-4.
Bagliore picked up the loss to move his record to 0-4. Wieland, Fee and senior
Dillon Taggart (Livingston Manor, N.Y./Livingston Manor Central) each collected two hits.
Sophomore
Dylan O'Rourke (Hutchinson, Pa./Yough) took the mound in game two for Geneva, and he held the Presidents mostly in check early, giving up single runs in the second and fourth innings. Unfortunately, Geneva could not get its offense going against W&J starter Garrett Harstine, who ended up going six innings while giving up just one hit.
W&J took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four times, and the Presidents added two more in the sixth to knock O'Rourke out of the game, increasing their lead to 8-0. Those ended up being the final runs of the game.
O'Rourke took the loss to move his record to 1-3. Geneva managed just the two hits in the game.
Geneva returns home to play Bethany next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
