GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Geneva College baseball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday at Grove City, falling twice to the Wolverines by scores of 3-1 and 14-3. Grove City improved to 26-13, 16-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Geneva fell to 7-28, 2-21 in the PAC.
Freshman
Aaron Erimias (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) got the start in game one, and he continued his recent strong play with another solid outing. Grove City pushed across a run in the second inning to take an early lead.
Geneva tied things up in the top of the fourth against Grove City's ace Lake Pry, with sophomore
Tyler Seliga (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) picking up a two-out bunt single to drive in senior
Dillon Taggart (Livingston Manor, N.Y./Livingston Manor) from third, evening the score at 1-1.
Grove City answered in its half of the fourth with two runs, both scoring after two were out. Geneva had a chance to answer in the top of the fifth, but the Golden Tornadoes left runners at second and third. It would be the last threat for Geneva's offense, with Grove City holding on for the 3-1 win in seven innings.
Erimias pitched all six innings, giving up nine hits and three runs while striking out four. Seliga went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Golden Tornadoes managed just three hits in the game.
Senior
Jericho Hilling (Williamsburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) took the mound in game two, and Grove City scored three times in the bottom of the second to get on the board first.
Geneva responded in the top of the third, helped by some shaky Grove City defense. Sophomore
Garrison Wieland (Sharpville, Pa./Sharpsville) drove in two with a single, and another runner scored later on an error to tie the game at 3-3. Unfortunately, that would prove to be the only offense Geneva could muster.
Grove City answered in its half of the third, scoring four times while knocking Hilling out of the game. The Wolverines put the game away with two runs in the fifth followed by four runs in the sixth. Grove City closed out the scoring with a run in the eighth to win 14-3.
Hilling picked up the loss, pitching two innings while giving up seven hits and seven runs. Freshman
Alex Fee (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Wieland finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Geneva's final game against Grove City that had been tentatively rescheduled for Monday has been canceled.
